The Bird House
The house (as in Figure 1) is built for swiftlets to stay and it also known as "House Nest". The house nest is built to relatively similar conditions found in the bird's natural cave habitat - humid and dark. During breeding season, those bird nests inside the house takes about 30-40 days to construct and complete their nests.
Those swiflets also known as "Collocalia Fuciphaga", use their salivary glands to compose interwoven strands of saliva that bind those nests together and cemet their nests to the inside of the bird house. Some of them prefer cosy corners and others like to build on a flat wooden surface. That is how the "Corner" (Figure 2) or the "Cup" shaped (Figure 3) bird's nest come about.
Each nest usually holds 2 eggs and take about 3 weeks to hatch. Both parents will take turn to keep those eggs incubated. Once their young came into this world, both of the parents will take turn to feed them foods such as wild insects.
